Support group

1

The Förderkreis sees itself as a link between the museum and the Hofheim community. Its members feel jointly responsible for ensuring that the museum receives the attention and recognition it deserves today after 30 years of successful development work. To this end, the Friends support the museum both ideally and materially in its various activities. This is what makes many things possible in the first place.

In close contact with the museum management, the Förderkreis provides funds in particular for

  • the expansion of the collection
  • the organization of exhibitions, catalogs and publications
  • the educational work of the museum

It is particularly important to us that children and young people also discover the museum for themselves: As a lively place of beautiful experiences with fine art, urban history and archaeology.

The funds that the Förderkreis regularly makes available to the museum are obtained through the contributions of its members, donations and the generous support of sponsors from our region.

These recent examples show how sensibly the funds are used:

The Förderkreis welcomed its 200th member in September! The Höchster Kreisblatt reported on this in its issue on 30.9.2025.

Vernissage Jim Dine - Chasing scale and color

An American artist who is described as one of the main representatives of Pop Art - but who himself does not want to be pigeonholed; who was born in Cincinnati, grew up as an artist in New York - and feels at home in Göttingen; who, alongside hearts, has made the bathrobe, as a representative of himself, one of his most popular motifs - and today discovers his fascination with self-portraits. What a stroke of luck for Hofheim to be able to show such an artist, whose works otherwise hang in the world's great museums, in Hofheim!

The opening of the exhibition on June 12 was accordingly well attended, with the artist himself present. A friendly older gentleman, who you wouldn't know that he will be 90 years old in a few days, who supervised the hanging of his recent paintings himself, briefly addressed the audience at the opening and answered questions afterwards.

The interest in this exhibition is likely to extend far beyond Hofheim. The catalog was produced by the renowned Steidl publishing house in Göttingen. Of the extensive supporting program with guided tours, workshops etc., the discussion on September 4 at 7.30 pm between Jim Dine and his publisher Gerhard Steidl, which will be held in English, deserves special mention. The exhibition can be seen until September 28.

Honoring Ingrid Jureit

Ingrid Jureit was honored at this year's New Year's reception of the city of Hofheim on 26.1.2025 for her voluntary work in the cultural sector. Mayor Christian Vogt and City Councillor Andreas Hegeler presented the certificate and the gold badge of honor, and the latter recalled Ingrid Jureit's diverse activities around the Hofheim City Museum and its art scene, in particular the Hofheim Group. In her laudatory speech, Dr. Friederike Lohse also referred to the artist Ingrid Jureit and her important role in the Förderkreis des Stadtmuseums, where she "is a huge support" as deputy chairwoman.

Member management on January 9, 2025: "The broken circle"

The exclusive guided tour of the current exhibition for members of the Förderkreis was particularly popular this time with over 30 participants. Anyone who has read the book "Zebras in the Snow" about Frankfurt will be familiar with the lively Frankfurt art scene in the period from 1927 to 1933, when the Beckmann School at Frankfurt's Staedel was in full bloom - and then dissolved. The exhibition makes it almost painfully clear what effects the Nazi regime also had on the art scene. Max Beckmann and his students are prototypes of this. None of the promising students in this master class were granted Beckmann's success. They were marginalized: first by the Nazis, later by the zeitgeist.

Dr. Marion Victor did intensive research on the Beckmann students, wrote a book and then curated the Hofheim exhibition. She kindly took over the guided tour herself - certainly one of the reasons for the great interest. A total of seven of the students were selected for the exhibition. Dr. Victor sensitively outlined their very different fates, traced their lives through their pictures and thus shed new light on the talents of these artists. "These works must not be forgotten, they are part of our history," says the curator. The art-historical significance of this exhibition is also reflected in the above-average number of visitors the museum has received so far. The exhibition can only be seen until February 9.

The support group in action

The exhibition "Der gesprengte Kreis - Die Schülerinnen und Schüler Max Beckmanns" was not only co-financed by the Förderkreis from its own funds, the Förderkreis also raised money for the exhibition. Donations came from Mainova (€5,000), the NASPA Foundation (€2,000) and Frankfurter Volksbank (€500). On 26 December, the NASPA Foundation invited representatives from all 14 organizations that received a donation for their voluntary work this year.

We would like to thank all our sponsors for their support!

Visit to the Pechstein exhibition at the Museum Wiesbaden

On June 13, 2024, an excursion to the Museum Wiesbaden was on the program of the Förderkreis. On display was the important painter and graphic artist Max Pechstein (1881 - 1935), a representative of German Expressionism and thus a contemporary of Hanna Bekker vom Rath. The FAZ had announced: "The exhibition The Sun in Black and White brings together paintings and prints by Max Pechstein in an overwhelming retrospective at the Museum Wiesbaden." The curator himself, Dr. Roman Zieglgänsberger, had invited visitors to an impressive and extremely knowledgeable guided tour. He is a curator at the Museum Wiesbaden and specializes in classical modernism (see photo 3rd from the right in the 1st row).

The Förderkreis at the New Year's reception of the city of Hofheim

The Förderkreis presented itself for the first time this year, on 21.1.2024 to be precise, at the Markt der Vereine in the Stadthalle. In the run-up to the New Year's reception, the city of Hofheim gives all associations the opportunity to present themselves. 600 citizens accepted the invitation, many of them new residents.

Here is the female board team at our stand.

The anniversary weekend at the Stadtmuseum (1993 - 2023)

There was a lot on offer on the weekend of November 25/26 to mark the 30th anniversary. The celebrations began with a ceremony hosted by the town of Hofheim at the museum. In front of over 100 guests, Mayor Christian Vogt, Head of City Council Andreas Hegeler, Ingrid Jureit from the Friends of the Museum and Museum Director Dr. Inga Remmers looked back on the founding of the museum and the 30 years that followed, each from their own perspective. Strengthened by a fine buffet and a glass of sparkling wine, the guests then went outside to unveil the commemorative plaques for founding director Dr. Eva Scheidt and the then mayor Rolf Felix. Helger "Bomber" Steinmann crowned the evening with a light performance, accompanied by mulled wine served by the Förderkreis - in keeping with the weather.

"My dear Hanna" is the title of the city museum's major new exhibition, which opened on Sunday morning and revisits its beginnings with a focus on Hanna Bekker. This time, the close friendship with Ida Kerkovius, her teacher, friend and frequent visitor to the Blue House, is highlighted. Mr. Vogt presented the almost 150 guests with plans to name the streets in a new residential area in Hofheim after Hanna Bekker and the (female) circle of artists around her. The city is also donating a modern ventilation system for the museum's exhibition rooms. In his speech, Minister of State Axel Wintermeyer emphasized the importance of art as an identity-forming staple of a society whose cohesion is currently under great strain. Dr. Friederike Lohse, Chairwoman of the Sponsors' Association, emphasized the generous contributions from sponsors that made this event and the upcoming installation of a Hanna Bekker figure in all parts of the city possible in the first place. She also reported a proud increase in membership of around 30 percent in the past year.

The open day from 1 p.m. with a varied program of express tours and workshops through the various departments of the museum was well received by the citizens. The exhibition runs until March 17, 2024, and at the beginning of the year, the Friends will offer its members an exclusive guided tour.

Christmas present

In order to open up the museum to more Hofheim residents, the Förderkreis has come up with something special: a gift voucher for 1 year's membership of the Förderkreis wrapped up for Christmas. This not only grants free admission to the museum at any time, but also invitations to such wonderful exhibition openings as on Sunday or exclusive guided tours. If you wish, you can also take a bottle of museum wine with you, at a special price in a double pack. 30 euros for individual membership, 50 euros with a partner, plus 1 bottle of wine (8 euros), a total of 35 euros.

Good winemaker, good wine, doing good

For the first time in our history, there is now a wine edition of the Förderkreis, with which we want to improve our profile in the Hofheim community. The renowned Rheingau winery Trenz from Johannisberg has bottled a beautiful dry 21 Riesling especially for us, which will be a pleasant companion on many an evening.

It is the anniversary wine of the Förderkreis. You can buy it while stocks last here in Hofheim: in the town museum, at Edeka Buch in the Chinoncenter and at Buch - der Markt in the main street. Both the winery and the Buch family have kindly made it possible for us to offer you the wine at the attractive price of €7.99 per bottle. And the best thing is: every sip is a donation. Because all the proceeds go to the city museum. So do something good: drink the anniversary wine!

Förderkreis Stadtmuseum Hofheim elects a new board of directors

The Förderkreis Stadtmuseum has a new management team: Dr. Friederike Lohse was elected as the new chairperson at the members' meeting on 25 April, having already held the position on an interim basis since the beginning of 2023. Vera Wormuth-Wahrenburg was elected as the new assessor. Tomislav Vranjic was confirmed as Treasurer. The 7-member board, which is now complete again, is looking forward to working together in a spirit of trust with each other and with the museum director Dr. Inga Remmers in order to provide the best possible support for the Stadtmuseum.

Dr. Friederike Lohse can look back on a 20-year career in marketing and communications at Deutsche Bank in Germany and Asia and is now the marketing manager of a clinic in Wiesbaden. She lives with her partner in Hofheim and has a grown-up son. The new Chairwoman explains: "It is our most important task to support the Stadtmuseum: financially, with our ideas, our network and our time. My aim is for the Hofheim museum to be a meeting point for the town's residents, a place for cultural encounters at a high level, but also for social encounters. Here you can exchange ideas and have fun!"

Vera Wormuth-Wahrenburg also has a close connection to art and would like to integrate art in and around the Hofheim Museum more strongly into everyday life for all Hofheim citizens through her support of the Förderkreis. Ms. Wormuth-Wahrenburg lives in Hofheim, works as a corporate lawyer, is married and has two grown-up children.

The Förderkreis would like to thank Dr. Gerhard Marquordt, who worked for the Hofheim Stadtmuseum as Chairman from 2018 to the end of 2022 with a great deal of commitment, knowledge and his extensive network. "He has achieved great things for the cultural scene in Hofheim, and we hope that he can now enjoy his time with his wife - travelling and in Hofheim," says Dr. Friederike Lohse.

Tuesday, 25.04.2023, 18.00: General meeting of the Förderkreis in the Stadtmuseum

In addition to the obligatory reports, there are a number of positions to be filled and you can vote: Following the resignation of Dr. Marquordt, the election of the Chairperson is pending. Dr. Lohse, who is currently acting chairperson, is standing for election. Mr. Vranjic, our treasurer, is prepared to take on this role for a further term of office. And there is a candidate for the open position of Assessor, namely Ms. Wormuth-Wahrenburg. She will introduce herself to you personally on the evening. The auditors are also up for re-election; thankfully, both Ms. Schulze and Mr. Faust have made themselves available again. Discussions can be held under the item: Annual planning 2023 - we look forward to your contributions, e.g. how we can make the Förderkreis even more lively. The current status of the 2023 annual program is attached.

Afterwards, at 7.30 pm, Dr. Remmers will do us the honor of giving us a guided tour of the current and popular exhibition on the giant world of dwarves. We will round off the evening with a glass of museum wine and cookies.

Thursday, 19.1.2023, 5.30 pm: Ernst Wilhelm Nay at the Museum Wiesbaden

Ernst Wilhelm Nay is one of the most important German artists after the Second World War. He is of particular importance to us because he lived in Hofheim from 1945 to 1951 and found his very own path to abstraction here. He is therefore also of particular interest to the art collection of the Stadtmuseum, which we were able to enrich with two further beautiful graphic works by Nay with our anniversary donation. It is therefore fitting that the Museum Wiesbaden is currently showing a magnificent Nay retrospective. At the invitation of the Friends of the Museum Wiesbaden, the curator of the exhibition, Roman Zieglgänsberger, will introduce you to Nay's life's work on January 19. We are particularly grateful to him for this.

This exclusive members' event is open to 25 guests, subject to prior registration (06192 202540 or foerderkreis.stadtmuseumhofheimde). Admission costs €12 per person (concessions may be available) and is payable at the museum ticket office. Arrival and departure are individual. Meeting point is in the foyer.

Review: Exclusive member tour on 9.1.2023: Taunus Art Triennial 2

Right at the start of the new year, the members of the Hofheim City Museum Friends' Association were able to visit the current special exhibition Taunus Kunst Triennale 2. Almost 40 people accepted the invitation and were warmly welcomed by the new (acting) chairperson Dr. Friederike Lohse. Together with museum director Dr. Inga Remmers, they got to know the works of selected artists from our region who have explored the theme of the masked ball in a variety of ways over the past three years under the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine. We first went to the impressive Haindl barn (see photo), which many of us had never seen before, then to the Ehry farm, before completing the tour in the rooms of the city museum.

During the subsequent drink with our anniversary wine, many were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the regional art on display - everyone agreed that the focus on the contemporary scene is an enrichment for the museum. Perhaps one or the other will visit one of the artists in their studio ... in any case, the high-quality catalog is available at the museum for 18 euros.

Review of the anniversary celebration: it was a complete success

On October 9, 2022, we celebrated our 30th anniversary. Members and guests, including Mayor Christian Vogt and City Councillor Andreas Hegeler, attended in large numbers. Chairman Dr. Gerhard Marquordt welcomed a full house with the words: "We have been supporting and accompanying the Stadtmuseum on its successful journey for three decades. During this time, it has become the cultural center of our city". Mayor Vogt expressed his thanks and appreciation to the members of the association for their consistently reliable commitment. "You have made a significant contribution to the success of the museum by sponsoring over 90 special exhibitions, numerous purchases of works of art for the museum's collection and important acquisitions for its furnishings".

This was followed by a varied program, in which board members Ingrid Jureit, Dr. Gerhard Marquordt and Dr. Friederike Lohse first gave an informal account of how the Förderkreis was founded in 1992 on the initiative of the then mayor Rolf Felix, how it understands its task of "supporting the museum ideally and materially", what has been achieved in the process and why it is so satisfying for the members to participate in the association's work. Then it was on to the two pictures that were still covered up on easels: two valuable prints by Ernst Wilhelm Nay, who lived in Hofheim from 1945 to 1951 and became one of the most important German artists of the post-war period. The pictures were recently purchased by the Förderkreis in order to donate them to the museum on the occasion of its anniversary. Dr. Marquordt presented the two paintings to Mayor Vogt and museum director Dr. Inga Remmers to great applause. Dr. Remmers expressed her thanks: "The prints are a great addition to the Nay collection already in the city museum".

Another highlight was about two famous Hofheim women and their houses on Hofheim's Kapellenberg: Ottilie W. Röderstein and the Rödersteinhaus, Hanna Bekker vom Rath and the "Blue House". Professor Mark Wahrenburg and Dr. Friederike Lohse, the current owners, had a highly interested audience as they brought the eventful history of the houses to life and talked about their exciting commitment to preserving them as historically as possible.

The musical setting was impressively provided by Teddie Hwang, transverse flute, Katrin Ebert, violin, and Florian Streich, violoncello, on historical instruments. The teachers of the Hofheim music school played from the Divertimento Hob.IV.11 by Joseph Haydn.

At the end of the celebration, Dr. Inga Remmers gave a guided tour of the current cabinet exhibition "Spotlight NAY", where the gifts from the Förderkreis were already back in place. And visitors were able to taste the anniversary wine from the Rheingau, bottled especially for the Förderkreis, which can also be purchased at the city museum or at Edeka in the Chinon-Center.

The donated pictures - until November 13, 2022 in "Spotlight NAY"

At its anniversary celebration on October 9, the Förderkreis donated two valuable prints by Ernst Wihelm Nay (1902 - 1968) to the Stadtmuseum. We had previously acquired these beautiful works at auctions in Hamburg and Berlin.

The delicate lithograph "Sylphenspiel", which the artist dedicated to his future wife, was created in 1949 when Nay was living in Hofheim. The work contains many references to his later work. The colorful and formally impressive color aquatint "Eruption" (1965) is a wonderful late work that summarizes the previous work and captivates every viewer. Both prints are an excellent addition to the Stadtmuseum's already remarkable Nay collection.

Ernst Wilhelm Nay found his own path to abstraction in Hofheim. The multiple Documenta and Biennale participant became one of the most important German artists of the two decades after the Second World War. He achieved international fame, which has not faded to this day. He worked in Hofheim from 1945 to 1951 in the former studio house of the painter Ottilie W. Roederstein, which Hanna Bekker vom Rath arranged for him. The Stadtmuseum's collection now comprises no fewer than twelve works by the artist.

The two new paintings can be seen in the current cabinet exhibition "Spotlight: NAY" until 13.11.2022.
