Turn plain into chic - your jute bag will be an eye-catcher!

There are many jute bags, but none like yours! In this workshop, you will transform a simple fabric bag into your own personal work of art. Using paints, stamps, stencils and spray paint, you can create exactly the style that suits you. Whether it's colorful patterns, great motifs or your own lettering - anything goes!

The best thing is that your bag is not only unique, but also a practical companion for every day - whether at school, at sports or on the go. So, go for the colors! Your bag is waiting for its new look.

Get to work with soapstone! Designing with soapstone - the stone with the soft side

Soapstone is characterized by its very low hardness. The stone can therefore be worked with the simplest of tools. It has been known and used in many cultures for several millennia, possibly since the Neolithic Age.

Get to know this fascinating material in the museum workshop and make your own amulets or small sculptures under guidance.

Experience antique gaming with your own round mill game to go

Even the ancient Romans were passionate gamers! Quick to set up and usable anywhere, the round mill in a leather bag was entertaining and practical.

Recreate ancient everyday culture and make a chic leather bag (alternatively a cloth bag) including a Roman round mill in the museum workshop. It's best to try your hand at it on site!

The clay makes the objects - pottery to your heart's content

Whether animals, bowls or figures, there are no limits to your imagination when sculpting with clay! Sometimes the ideas come while you're doing it and the cat turns into a crocodile. As the finished objects have to go into the kiln after drying, the creations can only be collected from the museum after about three weeks. A plaster cast of your choice, however, can be taken home straight away.

Make two from one, make many! Entering the world of printing techniques

Unconsciously, you have probably already printed a lot - be it just a handprint in the mud or in the sand. With simple processes such as soft-cut and/or styrene printing, you can try out artistic printing techniques in the museum workshop. The great thing is that you can prepare a print and make several prints at the same time. Ideal to keep and give as a gift!

With letter and seal - writing like in the old days

There are some historical documents to discover in the city museum. Wait a minute, the writing looks completely different from today and what's that funny red circle? Go on a journey through time with pen, ink and seal and practise the art of old writing. Write your own little texts or let off steam by drawing.

Guided tours for people with dementia

The Hofheim City Museum, the Dementia/Freiräume department of the Caritas Association Main-Taunus e.V. and the Catholic Adult Education for the Main-Taunus district regularly invite people with dementia, their partners and companions to a special guided tour program.

Based on the permanent exhibitions on the art and history of the region, specific guided tours are offered that focus on the positive experience of the visitors.

The program begins with a joint introduction that gives all participants the opportunity to arrive and get to know each other over drinks and snacks. The first objects are presented to stimulate various senses and establish a connection to the content of the subsequent stations of the tour. Familiar everyday objects or curiosities that are linked to the respective themes are particularly suitable for starting a conversation and awakening associations and memories.

Due to the small group size, there is room to respond to individual reactions of the visitors. Accompanying adults also have the opportunity to ask for further information about the exhibition content at any time. In this way, a visit to the museum can become a positive experience that emphasizes existing skills and joint activities.

Duration: approx. 1.5 h
Group size: max. 10 participants
Cost: 6.00 euros per person

The guided tours are led by Julia Ernst (Stadtmuseum Hofheim am Taunus) and Alexandra Petkovic (Caritasverband Taunus, Fachstelle Demenz).

The cooperation project "Moments of Experience" is under the patronage of Hofheim's mayor Christian Vogt.

The dates can be found in the Hofheim events calendar and on the website of the Dementia Network in the Main-Taunus district. Please register for the public tours via the Dementia Office: We inform, advise and support (caritas-main-taunus.de)

For inquiries for groups from institutions, please contact the Stadtmuseum directly.
